Playing Sports in College

Several associations oversee varsity-level competition in various sports for men and women at different colleges. These include the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), among others.

NCAA - National Collegiate Athletic Association
NAIA - National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics
NJCAA - National Junior College Athletic Association
IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
NCAA - Big 4-year schools, Division 1,2 and 3, $$$ help, pro drafting, strict eligibility criteria
NAIA - Smaller/Private 4-year schools, comparable to Div 2, easier eligibility, some $$$ help
NJCAA - 2-year junior college/community college, comparable to Div 2, easy eligibility, lower $$$ schools because less $$$ help
BASIC ELIGIBILITY:
NCAA - specific CORE courses, gpa/test score based on grid (http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/eligibility_center/Quick_Reference_Sheet.pdf)
NAIA - Meet at least 2 of the following criteria: Achieve 18 (composite) on ACT or 860 (critical reading and math) on SAT OR Achieve a cumulative 2.0 gpa OR Graduate in the top 50% of your senior class (using class rank).
NJCAA - HS diploma, GED or HS Equivalency
BEST BETS:
Get BEST grades possible for CORE classes (math, science, english, social studies)
Retake courses over the summer (with a teacher) if you FAILED a CORE course
Promote yourself to prospective schools (player footage, emails directly to coaches)
